The theatrical run of Saiyaara, directed by Mohit Suri, continues to perform strongly, prompting discussions about delaying its digital release. According to sources familiar with the matter, producers are negotiating with Netflix to postpone the OTT debut closer to Diwali, extending beyond the typical eight-week post-theatrical window.
Industry standards usually see Hindi films premiere on streaming platforms about two months after their cinema release. However, the backers of Saiyaara are aiming for a 90-day gap to capitalize further on its theatrical momentum. The film, produced by Yash Raj Films on a budget of Rs 45 crore, has already generated Rs 153.25 crore within six days of release in India.
The initial plan was to launch Saiyaara on Netflix in the second week of September. That timeline may shift to mid-November if current negotiations succeed. Insiders suggest that the absence of significant Hindi-language competitors at the box office is enabling Saiyaara to extend its run and maximize earnings.
The film marks the debut of Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, and its strong performance has placed it among the year’s top-grossing titles. As of now, Saiyaara ranks in the top five for 2025, following Chhaava (Rs 601 crore), Housefull 5 (Rs 183 crore), Raid 2 (Rs 173 crore), and Sitaare Zameen Par (Rs 163 crore).
Final decisions regarding the OTT release will depend on how long the film maintains its current momentum in theatres.
